Sustainable agriculture

The changes caused by climate change and the loss of biodiversity pose major challenges for farmers in the Sundarbans.

Together we promote sustainable and biodiverse agriculture and the marketing of the products produced in the Sundarbans.

We are committed to ensuring that smallholder farmers can expand their income opportunities.

We continue to build local structures and strengthen agricultural communities.

  • Since 2016, agricultural communities in the Indian Sundarbans have been supported so that they can rely on sustainable agricultural methods.
  • The preservation of indigenous seeds strengthens the farmers’ resilience on several levels: Among other things, indigenous seeds can be used after cyclones when the soil is somewhat salinated by seawater.

  • Together, we are strengthening entrepreneurial approaches and structures so that smallholder farmers can sell their produce better and offer their products to a larger group of customers.
