is a collaborative initiative. Its aim is to coordinate the activities of actors working in and for the Sundarbans in order to achieve a greater impact.

Working together.

the Sundarbans

are a region in the delta of the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna rivers. They are home to the world’s largest mangrove forest, which stretches over 10,000 square kilometers from India to Bangladesh. The islands of the Sundarbans are also among the most densely populated regions in the world.

the challenges

are complex. From climate change to pollution and the loss of biodiversity, the problems facing the Sundarbans and its inhabitants cannot be solved by individual organizations. However, if we coordinate their activities in such a way that they complement each other, we will achieve a greater impact.

Our thematic areas of activity

Plastic waste

can pose a major threat to the ecosystem of the Sundarbans, but it is also a resource and therefore an opportunity for social enterprises.

Sustainable agriculture

promotes healthy ecosystems, local biodiversity and can serve as income opportunities for farmers.

Reforestation

contributes to offsetting CO₂ and is therefore good for our climate – but not only that: Fruit trees also provide food, are another source of income for families and contribute to healthy soil.

our approaches

working together

Together with our partners in Germany and in the Sundarbans, we implement projects aimed at protecting people and nature in the Sundarbans.

educating and informing

We are committed to raising awareness of the Sundarbans and their importance in Germany. To achieve this, we initiate projects in the field of education for sustainable development.

researching and piloting

New approaches can be developed and tested on site through research and pilot projects.

We contribute to the following SDGs:
